Set scores: home team’s points first.
Our second National Volleyball League (NVL) match day, on Saturday 17 October 2026, was our first away from home, and we won both games. We came from behind to beat Southampton 2 in five sets at Itchen College Sports Centre, then beat Wiltshire Mavericks 3–1.
A slow start, then a five-set win
Our confidence took an early hit, and our hosts Southampton 2 controlled most of the first set to take it 25–17.
We got our game back in the second, winning it 18–25, then took the third 21–25 to lead 2–1. Southampton 2 pushed back to stay in the game, winning the fourth 25–21.
With a bit of luck and plenty of discipline, we took the deciding set 7–15 to win the game. Our MVP was Isaac Wayne, our setter.
Sadly, our opposite Chris Puebla injured his ankle during this game. Everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery, and we’re here for him if he needs anything.
Back to back against Wiltshire Mavericks
We started the second game with confidence, taking the first two sets 25–23 and 25–23.
Wiltshire Mavericks showed real mental strength to hit back, winning the third 15–25. We refocused in the fourth and closed it out 25–23 to win 3–1.
Our MVP was Aidan Law, our outside hitter.
Two from two
It was an outstanding performance from the whole squad. We adapted to each opponent, showed our skills and supported each other through every set.
Head Coach Samir Belaiche stayed passionate all day, giving strategy and guidance to everyone on and off the court. He said: “Welcome back to our captain, Kuba! What a great job from our outside hitters, liberos and setters! And what a performance from our opposite, Ciaran, who came off the bench and did the job for the team.”
Samir also wished a prompt recovery to Dominik, who we missed on the day.
Thank you to Drame Ousmane and URBOND for their support and belief in our team, and to Southampton 2, Wiltshire Mavericks and the referees.
